Baylor volleyball picked up an important Big 12 victory with a sweep of rival TCU, delivering a statement performance against one of the conference's top teams.

Following the match, Baylor head coach Ryan McGuyre spoke with Lone Star Sports about the significance of the win, his team's development, and the determination it took to finish the match in a tightly contested third set.

"It's an important win for us. Get a win in conference, get a win over a rival, win off a top ranked team," McGuyre said.

Despite the victory, McGuyre had plenty of praise for the Horned Frogs and the talent they bring to the court.

"Jason and his staff does a great job. They got so many good athletes over there at TCU," McGuyre said. "I feel like they're a Final Four caliber team, and we want to continue to be at that level ourselves, too."

Baylor Shows Grit in Dramatic Third Set

While Baylor secured the sweep, the third set presented a significant challenge.

TCU pushed the Bears late, forcing Baylor to fight off a match point before rallying to finish the contest.

During a tense timeout, McGuyre delivered a confident message to his players.

"We're the better team tonight, and so we're gonna find a way to win," McGuyre told Lone Star Sports.

The Baylor head coach emphasized the importance of trusting his players' abilities, especially when facing adversity.

"When our girls are the best version of themselves, they can do some pretty, pretty amazing things," he said.

For McGuyre, the comeback represented more than just closing out a rivalry match.

"If you wanna win tough games, championships, conferences, like, you gotta be able to come back when you're down," McGuyre said.

A Young Baylor Team Continues to Develop

McGuyre also highlighted the progress Baylor has made during conference play, particularly with a roster that is still developing.

"We're a real young team, so it's just, you know, that balance of being patient and getting better at the same time," he said.

The coach credited individual performances along with the team's consistency in serving, passing, and defense.

He praised Bella for directing the offense and highlighted another player's all-around performance as important factors in the victory.

"I thought our defense and serving pass stayed the course, you know, enough to keep us in it," McGuyre said.

Those contributions helped Baylor maintain its composure against a talented TCU team and finish the match in three sets.

McGuyre Focused on Improvement Ahead of Tough Big 12 Schedule

Although Baylor earned an impressive conference victory, McGuyre made it clear that the Bears cannot afford to become complacent.

With upcoming conference opponents including Houston and Kansas, the Baylor head coach emphasized the importance of continued improvement.

"Everyone's good in the Big 12," McGuyre said.

Rather than focusing too far ahead, McGuyre wants his players to concentrate on what they can learn from each performance.

"We move forward by just getting better each day in the gym," he said.

For Baylor, the victory over TCU provides another example of the team's potential as it continues navigating a competitive Big 12 schedule.

And for McGuyre, the message remains simple: continue improving, remain patient, and develop the consistency needed to compete against the conference's best.
