Brody Bomar made his presence felt in Argyle’s district victory over Lovejoy, delivering an interception and earning Lone Star Sports Player of the Game honors.
For the senior, the Eagles’ performance came down to physicality and executing what they had worked on throughout the week.
“We came into it knowing we had to play more physical than them and execute the things we’ve done all week,” Bomar said. “I feel like we just came out and showed out and did what we needed to do.”
Preparation With a Purpose
Facing Lovejoy’s offense, Argyle put an emphasis on being ready for the challenge. Bomar credited the preparation with Coach Lundy, which included work early in the morning and during fourth period.
“Everything we went through was with intent and a purpose,” Bomar said. “We prepared for their offense really well and really physically.”
That preparation helped Bomar make one of his key plays of the night. Dropping into coverage, he recognized a receiver breaking behind him and anticipated where the quarterback might throw.
“He kind of just threw it up to me,” Bomar said, “and I jumped up there and caught it.”
Keeping the Focus on Next Week
A big district win can bring attention, but Bomar’s focus remains on what Argyle can control.
“You can’t think about the rankings that much,” he said.
Instead, he emphasized preparing for the next opponent and making the most of each practice.
“The most important thing is thinking about the next week,” Bomar said, “executing what you can do every single week at practice.”
For Argyle, the challenge is carrying that same preparation and physicality into the next game.
More Than Friday Night
Asked his favorite thing about Texas high school football, Bomar pointed to the relationships built through the work behind the scenes.
“Probably the connection I get with my buddies,” he said. “Waking up early in the morning, doing hard things with them—you definitely build that connection over time.”
As a senior, those shared experiences mean as much to him as the moments under the lights.
“It’s something you can’t just build hanging out with them,” Bomar said. “Overall, just doing hard things with your buddies.”
