Dallas Jesuit went for the win—and got it.
In a thrilling overtime finish at Walnut Grove, the Rangers converted a two-point attempt to secure a road victory. Junior quarterback JP Livingstone earned Lone Star Sports Player of the Game honors, helping Jesuit pull out a confidence-building win as the playoff race heats up.
“Just feeling amazing,” Livingstone said afterward. “You dream about doing stuff like this.”
For Livingstone, beating Walnut Grove on its home field reinforced the belief Jesuit carried into the matchup.
“We knew this whole week that if we played our style of ball we were gonna come out on top,” he said. “And that’s what we did here tonight.”
Preparation Pays Off
Livingstone delivered several impressive throws throughout the game. Asked what goes into connecting with his receivers in those pressure moments, he credited film study, practice and months of work together.
“It’s just reps through the summer and fall camp with the guys,” Livingstone said, “and just making sure that if we get in these tight games that we know we’re gonna connect.”
He also gave some credit to his dad, who played college football.
That preparation helped Jesuit finish a game that demanded execution when it mattered most.
Prosper and Allen Await
The Rangers have more challenges ahead, with Prosper and Allen coming up. Livingstone called the Walnut Grove victory a “huge confidence booster” heading into those matchups.
Playing on Thursday gave Jesuit a little extra time to enjoy the win, but Livingstone already had his sights on preparing for Prosper.
“Really Sunday’s the time to lock back in for Prosper and get a good game plan in,” he said.
An Atmosphere Worth Remembering
When asked his favorite thing about Texas high school football, Livingstone pointed to the environment—and Thursday’s overtime finish provided a perfect example.
With fans filling both sides of the stadium, the noise and energy added to a moment he won’t soon forget.
“Especially in overtime when both stands are just going crazy and you just have to dial it in,” Livingstone said.
“You can’t experience it anywhere else.”
Jesuit left Walnut Grove with a road win, renewed confidence and a memorable finish led by its junior quarterback.
