Zane Rowe Shines in District Win, Credits Discipline and Preparation

Zane Rowe made his presence felt on both sides of the football in a big district win, earning Lone Star Sports Player of the Game honors.

Rowe, an Oregon commit, delivered a strong defensive performance that included multiple sacks, but his impact didn’t stop there. He also got an opportunity on offense and found the end zone.

After the game, Rowe told Lone Star Sports that the performance was a product of what his team emphasized throughout the week.

“We really focused on discipline, and that was a big impact this week in this game,” Rowe said. “Really just discipline of us playing our game, playing our football.”

Rowe credited film study and the work of his teammates in practice for helping him prepare.

“We get a great look at practice,” Rowe said. “Just gotta give a good shout-out to my scout team. Without them, we can't be as successful as we are here.”

While Rowe is known for what he can do defensively, his touchdown showed another element of his game.

According to Rowe, his offensive involvement isn't something the coaching staff drew up at the last minute.

“We draw it up every practice, just different plays to try to put me one-on-one or just put me in a position to score,” he said.

Playing 6A football in Texas means navigating a difficult schedule week after week. Rowe said his team approaches that challenge by keeping its faith at the center of the program and relying on one another.

“We just always keep God first,” Rowe said. “That's a big thing we keep in our program, just always keeping our faith first. And then just leaning on each other.”

For Rowe, one of the things that makes Texas high school football special goes beyond what happens between the lines.

“The people,” Rowe said when asked about his favorite part of Texas high school football. “Y'all see the community we have here. Filled it up. It's great. I'll just say the support. That's what makes it special here in Texas.”

Rowe will continue his football career at Oregon, but for now, he's focused on helping his team continue stacking wins through district play.
