Maya Ogbogu and Allen Staying Focused on the Bigger Goal
Allen standout Maya Ogbogu believes the key to her team’s success is simple: play together, bring energy and continue improving.
Following another strong performance and an Allen victory, the Texas A&M commit emphasized that the Eagles cannot afford to become comfortable—even as one of the top teams in the state.
“Don’t get complacent,” Ogbogu said. “Keep working and know that there are teams still working to try to beat us. We are at the top right now, but we can’t let that number get to our heads. It’s just a number. The playoffs are what matter.”
Playing With Unity
Ogbogu and the Eagles established themselves early in the match with a strong opening set.
According to Ogbogu, that fast start came from the team’s energy and willingness to play for one another.
“It was about bringing high energy, playing with my team and not playing an individual game,” Ogbogu said.
“We played with unity and had fun. That is what it is about at the end of the day.”
That team-first approach has helped Allen remain among the leading programs in Texas high school volleyball.
Competing Against the Best in Texas
Ogbogu, a member of the Class of 2028, is an outside hitter who has committed to continue her volleyball career at Texas A&M.
Despite already establishing herself as one of the country’s premier prospects, she appreciates the challenge that comes with competing in Texas.
“Texas is known for big, high-level volleyball,” Ogbogu said. “There are so many good teams that any of them could take it on any day. We have to keep working hard, work together and do what it takes to get better every day in practice.”
For Ogbogu, the competition is what makes Texas high school volleyball special.
“I feel like there is nowhere else where you have so many high-level, competitive players all playing,” she said. “It is very competitive here.”Preparing for the Playoffs
Allen may currently be receiving statewide recognition, but Ogbogu understands that rankings do not determine what happens during the postseason.
The Eagles’ focus is on continuing to develop and reaching their best form when the playoffs arrive.
“We just have to keep bringing the heat and gearing up for the playoffs,” Ogbogu said.
With one of the country’s top young players helping lead the way, Allen remains focused on turning its regular-season success into a deep postseason run.
